I usually do tournaments for my home games, and we'll start with blinds of 1 & 2. For the first and second raise, we will double to 2 & 4 and then 4 & 8. Thereafter doubling can make the blinds quite large an it seems silly to continue with that schedule, so we usually drop down to raising the big blind by two.

Any other strategies folks use?

With a tournament, I would recommend using tournament chips - which have values starting at 25 and rising up to 5000. A typical blind structure would be :

  • 25/50
  • 50/100
  • 100/200
  • 150/300
  • 200/400
  • 300/600
  • 400/800
  • 500/1000
  • 600/1200
  • 800/1600
  • 1000/2000 etc...

For a home game with 10 players a starting stack of 4000-5000 chips, with blind levels lasting 20 minutes, would be a reasonable structure.
